Every job starts with an email and three photographs. Jitka replies with what the book needs and a fixed quote. There is no form.

What to Send

  1. The spineStraight on, so the whole length of it is in the picture.
  2. The book open at the middleLying on a table, so the sewing and the joints show.
  3. The title pageIt says what the book is, and often when and where it was bound.
  4. The height in centimetresMeasured up the spine, from tail to head.
  5. A sentence on what you wantMended so it can be read again, rebuilt in leather, boxed for a shelf, or a journal of your own.

Where

Brno, South Moravia. The workshop is one narrow room in the city, and directions come with the reply once a collection is arranged.

Collection

Post
A tracked parcel with its value covered, within the Czech Republic and Slovakia, at cost. Originals are only ever posted back to the address they came from.
Visits
For a shelf or a collection of 30 books or more within 50 km of Brno. Free inside the city, 9 CZK per km beyond it.

Deposits and Timing

A deposit of 30 percent is due on any job over 3,000 CZK, with the balance on collection or before return posting. Quotes are fixed once the book is on the bench, and if something hidden turns up when a spine comes off, Jitka writes before doing anything that changes the price. Repairs take 2 to 3 weeks, full rebinds 4 to 6, leather 6 to 8 and archival boxes 2 to 3. Stock journals are ready the same week, and journals made to order take 2 weeks.
